Our program offers the courses for the following individual musical instruments: violin, viola, cello, double-bass, flute, guitar, kanun and bağlama (traditional Turkish string instruments). Program also offers voice training courses. Organizing regular concerts, with examples of national and international musical sellections has been one of the priorities of our department. There are currently 120 students enrolled as a total. Approximately 30 hours of classes are held for each grade. Our curriculum has been programmed by YOK (Turkish Higher Education Council) and this curriculum is applied all the Music Education departments of the Turkish universities. Candidates must have passed the 800,000 threshold from the TYT (Basic Profiency Exam).
There are currently, 1 Prof., 5 Assct. Prof., 4 Assistant Prof., 1 PhD. Lecturer , 3 Lecturers, 1 PhD. Research Assistant working in the Music Education Program. Graduates of Music Education Department are expected to be well-qualified in music education; planning, practice and methods of music teaching; composing music and contributing to the national and global music culture; thinking analytically and critically. They are expected to be modern music teachers. For this reason, in addition to their field courses, Music Education students are motivated to attend to the scientific conferences, symposiums, seminars and concerts. They are supplied with the opportunity of giving recitals or chamber music concerts with the aim of self-actualization. Graduates of program of Music Education can work as music teachers for the Ministry of Education on condition of being successful in KPSS (a national employment exam). Also they can work in private schools or art courses. Some of them pursue artistic careers or graduate education degrees in the departments of Music Education.
